Also some genes which are at an increased risk for developing cancer may be inherited from a parent. For example, about 45% of children with retinoblastoma, a cancer of the eye that develops mainly in children, inherited a pathogenic variant in a gene called RB1 from a parent (14). Children who inherit variants associated with certain familial syndromes, such as Li-Fraumeni syndrome, Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, Fanconi anemia, Noonan syndrome etc have an increased risk of childhood cancer.

Some environmental factors may have indirect causative association to childhood cancer like exposure to ionising radiation in utero or otherwise, tobacco smoke ,asbestos , pesticides exposure.
